In the 1920’s till 1940 the ceramic industry took advantage of a highly abundant and cheap resource of uranium ore to produce tiles and many older homes still have remnants of these tiles. The uranium ore was actually a waste product of the process to extract RA-226.

Uranium is mostly used in military applications to produce ammunition and power reactors which is its main civilian application.
